i read the fairly detailed write-up on wikipedia and found it somewhat, key being somewhat, similar to the jws except for the rules and regulations and the strong focus on end times.. it seems like an intriguing religious group.
It was a branch that shot off of the ICOC and became just the Church of Christ in California. Apparently they didn't agree with something about the ICOC and left and began their own " Thang". Where I am from in California they are all affiliated even up into Oregon and Washington.
I haven't checked on this side of the world.....East Side vs. West Side to see if its any different.

People don't understand what goes on. The love bombing, the control. They paired my mother up with spiritually strong married couple who did her bible studies, she was encouraged to put me in their school. She was admonished about therapy to deal with the after effects of life with my biological father...all she needed was the bible and to study.
They found my mother by going out door to door and these ladies became her best friends. One of them was the one who's daughters were being molested. The other lady and her family also left when they excommunicated our friend.
My uncle who joined was a mess after leaving the marines. He is so prim and proper now. It's very odd.
No wonder I married a JW...LOL!

I have written about this before on this board.
Here is my experience.
My mother was a part of the church right after my mother and biological dad divorced, our whole lives were wrapped up in it. Very controlling. Lots of bible studies, I went to a special school until 3rd grade that only children from the COC went to. We left because my mothers best friends daughters were being molested. She wanted to go to the police, and was kept by the elders of the church at the church meeting room until she agreed not to go to the police. It was hours long. When they finally believed her, she left and went straight to the police. They arrested her husbad. She was excommunicated (basically) for bringing things about the church into the public. Our family and 2 others also left because of this scandal and how she and her family were treated.
My mother brought her sister and brother into the COC. They do not speak to us. Not even when my grandfather was dying and the whole family was together. They didn't come to my mothers wedding. We are dead to them. Other members of the COC still don't speak to us when they see me, even now as an adult. My cousins also went to special COC schools.
My mother didn't realize it was a high control group until a ten years after leaving...She's a little slow sometimes...LOL!

as a jw i was taught that no matter what we were doing "in the world" our actions should always be above reproach.
we were always to be giving a "fine witness" many jws, myself included, believed that when people saw our fine behavior and recognized our clean morals they would attribute it to our religion.
and some would be so impressed they would want to learn more.. now that i am out i have had a fascinating time finding out what people really think about jws.
The lady who manages the Sunoco Gas Station down the street from me hates the JW's.
She said they steal all international flavored coffee creamers and sugar, sweetner and napkins.
She also said she doesn't appreciate them leaving magazines in the bathroom and peeing all over the seats (in the ladies room).
My oldest goes to a Christian school and only the director and my sons teachers know that my husbands family are JW's. My son has talked about it how it hurts his feelings that Grammy does things with his other cousins but not him. I don't think the JW's are too high on their list.
These are just off the top of my head.

for those who read my topic the other day bout the old jw friend who texted me.
well i received the package today with a little note congragulating me on my wedding and pregnancy.. anyway down the bottom is a ps...spoke to your mum the other day she misses blake alot.......... now i have never stopped them from seeing blake nor speaking to him, and now they are telling people in the congregation things like that..... im so angry that they are playing the vicitm card here.

Maybe when you have the new baby and you send out the birth announcements to your friends and family it can say at the bottom...
We are very sad my parents have chosen to ignore my children because of my decisions, if you'd like to be a surrogate grandparent please let me know ASAP as it is important for children to have the love and support from as many people as possible.
But then again....maybe I'm just being mean.

That is so very sad. Unfortunately it seems frightfully common. Very similar to how we don't hear from some of my husbands JW family until there is some sort of crisis or need for help.
I hope your friend isn't so in need of love that he goes back to the JW's.

I love my house even though its not done, we're still in the construction zone. We live in a small old Adventist church built in 1899.
I don't care for my neighborhood or the fact that our lot is so small. If I had my choice I would pick my house up and move it out into the forest.

well our fade seemed to be going along pretty smoothly even with the slight hitch of having to attend the memorial .
then this weekend good old mother in law who lives a thousand miles away , and talks to us once every few months , called, on speaker phone no less .
i know she has informats here and she has been dropping hints for months that she knows something is up , but she never comes out and just asks .
This is the only advice I can offer...
You need to get caller ID and if you already have it....You need to use it.
Maybe take some time to see if you are really ready to deal with a full blown shunning. It's hard, especially when its your own flesh and blood.
Only you know what you want to do.

that is a question i used to ask myself in my dub days.
prior to that, i'd always enjoyed magic and stunts, simply for entertainment, and always felt it was just a bunch of bologna.
then, when i studied the bible, there were the answers, so i thought!
I think he is creepy looking.....but not as creepy looking as Cris Angel.
How does he do that levitating thing? I'd like to learn how to do that so when my son is misbehaving, I can get his attention!

so, if i'm not much mistaken jwd was just down for over 24 hours - the longest time i can remember in over four years of posting here.
these things happen - c'est la vie.. so what did you do during this time?
did you suffer the dts?
Got a new inspection sticker for my truck.
Took the boys to McDonalds and the park.
Went to a few garage sales.
Did some work in the play room.
Started working on the upstairs bathroom.
BBQ'd steaks.
Fell asleep watching SNL.
